Couldn't agree more. People pay for stories, not information. We now expect information to be ubiquitous and free. But many choose their sources for the skill and entertainment in presentation. It's going up a level in the hierarchy of desire: I want information, but I want it because I want to use it to feel something. Sometimes that's just the feeling of accomplishment, sometimes it's pride of producing something for my family, sometimes it's relief from solving a problem. The winners on the internet speak to the higher feeling, perhaps subtly, but never dry. |

Paul, thank you! I didn't know that you were born in Moscow. The 40th anniversary edition isn't very different from the 10th edition. Both of those editions broke my oldest sister's heart. She's still mad that they took out so much of mom's personal ramblings. I think it's still a very useful book -- and some people don't miss the personal stuff -- but I also wish more people could still read the original, which is hard to find now. If it falls out of print again Carla's kids may find a way to sell that early version again.
Here's the really smart thing Carla Emery did. She got a clause in her book contract saying that rights for her book would always revert to her. What happens to lots of authors is that a publisher lets their book go out of print and then it just dies, because the publisher still holds those rights that they're not using. But the Encyclopedia of Country Living (the Old Fashioned Recipe Book) has never been out of print. Mom either had a publisher or she did it herself. Very smart move. |

Can you really practice massage therapy over the internet?
Here is one response: Comment Yes please , This information is amazing and unbelievable .I have been seeing a biomechanical chiropractor that uses nerves etc .But I just found massaging the tenderness out of my 2nd toe on my right foot instantly relieved the tension in my left trapisius muscle . tension that's been there for 10 years ! Yes these are my 3 sites. The weebly site is still a free site because I have not matured it enough to fealy promote ti for income. I highly recommend it if you want to try setting up a site Weebly.com The other two are Sitesell which is a great platform for optimising your site for search engines. It is based in Canada and I get remarkable response internationally on the magnet therapy site. Thank you Esther Emery for giving your experience. I really enjoy your YouTube channel which I discovered recently and subscribed. You could set up a Weebly site to go with it Where you could perhaps post excerpts from the book to back up what you have uploaded to YouTube. and send them from there back to your Amazon page. The saying is repetition builds the decision to purchase. |

Hi! I homestead partly because of the residual income from a big, popular book written by my mother, who has been dead for 10 years. It was a hard life being the daughter of a mom writer, and an alternative lifestyle mom writer for that matter. We were totally broke growing up. But she wins, because her seven kids each get several thousand dollars a year now from her book and versions of it. It's a huge win.
I also have some income from YouTube. I've been blogging for years but I don't make any money off of that. Here's my take on it. At the point at which you're only hanging out with friends, you don't make money. I started making real money at the point that people started hating on me. Which is fine, you know, as long as they watch the ads. In both cases, my mom's book and my YouTube money, the craft and presentation are huge. My mom's book was originally huge (and still is) not only because it has great information in it but also because she was completely vulnerable and human and people couldn't look away. That's my strategy, too, not because I really picked that strategy but because I'm my mother's daughter and that's just who I am. My mom also knew a lot of stuff, and I know a lot of stuff, too. But that's not what has built actual residual income for us is not just the knowledge. It's the human, and the personality, and especially in my case (because I actually know less than my mom did) storytelling skills. Also, I should say that even with all this, our five person family and three acre homestead with animals still requires that my husband works some as well. Though fortunately only part time.
