He's looking for a car, and I thought I'd tap the collective conscious to see how we could help.
Parameters:
*Reliable, gas-sipping car to get him from Arkansas to California, and back to the Lab. Maybe a used Prius.
*He has I think $3k to put towards it.
*Must be from a non-smoking, non-pet owner because sensitivities and stuff.
*He's currently in Arkansas, but might be able to come get it from somewhere in the region.
I think lots of people use facebook or dealerships for stuff like this, but that wouldn't be very Dez-ish. I'm wondering if someone will see this and say "you know what? I may know just the solution for Dez the Magnificent." Is that someone you? Respond here, or to Dez directly, or to me for any related reason.
IF it's just this trip, rent a car. Lot's cheaper and you won't have to find out why the owner sold it somewhere in East Texas. I only have cheapo cars, but I generally use them around my neighborhood. I actually trust em somewhat since I have had them for years, but I would be leery to drive them across the country.
Even if you need a car upon return I like my idea. Rent a car for the trip and then buy a $1000 '97 Civic like I did. Had it for 7 years now and it still gets 30+mpg in the foothills.
I agree with Dan. However, I have an 87 toyota van in California that I would sell (to Dez) for super cheap. It's super reliable in that it has almost 200K on it and still purrs like a kitten. It does have some quirks, and it sips oil as well as gasoline, but it's 4wd, got a full camping setup and one of my favorite vehicles ever.
