I wanted to see if any folks out there had any experience using thermal electric fans such as the Ecofan. Anybody tried one with a rocket mass heater or have any thoughts on its possible functionality with one? Thanks.

Hi there

I have one which I use in a large, irregularly-shaped, low-ceilinged room (not L-shaped, more L-and-a-bit-shaped). I notice a real difference in heat distribution. They are pricey but it makes a real difference in my opinion. Alas I haven't measured this difference but it's all about feeling toastier in the "a-bit"-shaped bit. They are a great conversation-piece too - really gets people talking about clever eco-heating. I have stoves in other rooms which don't need the fan at all, so I would say only have one if the room is too big for the stove, or there are parts of the room where the stove can't be seen, so the radiation is shielded. If I had one in my dining room we'd have to eat in the garden. NB mine's the original model, about 90 quid here which is about 150 dollars.
