planting citrus trees in autumn

Welcome Alan! I am so excited to read this! We are closing on a house in November with a decent urban lot. I cant wait to add more to the food forest the prior owner had! )) my question is can you plant citrus in the ground in autumn? Temps here never go below 30°F. Thank you!

Hi Cherry. I'd be surprised if you couldn't plant citrus in autumn, but I'm in the cool temperature zone and no citrus grow here, so I don't have much experience with them. Maybe someone else can help?

No problems with planting citrus in the fall.  Gives it half a year to get its roots established in preparation for the summer’s droughts.

Many people prefer planting before winter, as the winter will be spent developing roots, rather than leaves, which in the long run is much better for the tree.
