Cover Crop Sources - North east

Hi All,

Not sure if this is the correct forum to post this in, was looking for a general section but could not find, please move to appropriate forum if this is not it.

I'm looking for pre - inoculated white clover, preferably from somewhere in the north east as I'd rather not have it shipped from halfway across the country and think that stock from more local might be adapted to my conditions. Can anyone make some recommendations? Even if its not from the northeast at least I can do some comparisons. I'd like to buy in bulk so as to cut down on costs and keep some on hand for unplanned disturbances.

I looked at high mowing seeds but they do not have white clover. They are located in VT.

Unfortunately fedco is much more expensive than outsidepride.

I'm kind of concerned about having to apply the inoculant myself... what if you do it wrong? Could you do it so wrong that your clover never fixes nitrogen!? yikes

Did you purchase the pre-inoculated seed? I'm thinking I'm going to get that so I don't have to worry about doing it correctly.

Hi Robert, Yes I did. I bought ten pound inoculated bags. Although I think it was pricey, $34.95 for the white and $24.95 for the crimson plus $17.00 shipping, the product is quality and I'm very happy with their service.

Your best bet for organic cover crop seed in bulk in the North East is Lakeview Organic Grain, in Penn Yan, NY.
