I have 1/2 acre tilled and need to seed with some cover crop asap. Anyone have a cover crop source they trust that's affordable as well?

Any type of bean/peas at the supermarket that cost $1 or $2/lbs vs the usually $12/lbs for seeds.
When it comes to seeds in general I like bountifulgarden and fedco seeds.

Here's a source I found that is similar to grocery bulk bin prices. http://www.greencoverseed.com/ (BTW, I had already stocked up on buckwheat and beans from the bulk bins).

Buckwheat is one of my favorites and I buy a 50 # bag every few years to sow everywhere. It is $1.00 a pound at our local feed store. Other cover crops like mustards, turnips, clovers, vetch and rye grass I buy there also but only a pound or so at a time. This seed is untreated but not organic. Some like fava, soybean, wheat, and others we order in 5 to 25# bags through our local organic food buying cooperative.

Does the hulled buckwheat they sell for eating grow as well as the unhulled they sell for planting?

You may want to plant a mix of ground covers. Many do better as a blend and then you're covered if conditions aren't right for one to thrive.

The buckwheat I buy is unhulled intended for planting...I don't think I would expect hulled to work as well. Sometimes my seed is sitting on the surface waiting for rain for a while and I think the hull protects it.. I totally agree with a mix...better all around and more fun to look at...but my buckwheat seems to do better sown thickly all alone.
