This mini hoop uses 6' water pipe inside a 3'x8' 2x4 frame to start plants for the garden. The back has several 1gal jugs of water to moderate, store and release heat. There is a small inexpensive ceramic heater to guard against freezing. I use a wireless remote thermometer to monitor the temperature from inside. The front rolls up on a 1" pvc pipe. I repurposed an old sofa cover and an old blanket for cold nights. It sits on my south facing concrete front porch.

To understand permaculture is simply to look at how nature has been growing things for thousands of years. The 'secret' is simply to keep the soil covered with plants or mulch.

how effective are the water jugs in moderating the heat?

I was wondering if you've laid down an insulating board or panel?

Might be a good idea......

We built a similar thing once. The little pots can dry out pretty quickly. For our purposes, a bed works well too.
