Hi all. I am going to be building a Tiny house on wheels. I'm looking into getting a camper trailer and gutting it, and building it off the trailer as you can buy run down campers dirt cheap. I really like the idea of putting in a rocket powered radiant floor heating system, but I'm not sure how to make it fit, or keep the weight down. Any suggestions?

Hi Dan,

I hope to be building a small "tiny house" on wheels in the next few years myself...and have given designing it a lot of thought. I love RMH, and look forward to what others think, yet in my "rough numbers" it's a "no go," just because of that M part of RMH. Even if you plan on moving it once a year at most, the mass part just doesn't help. On the other hand...perhaps a Micro RMH will work as these small houses heat up really quick. Even a "shepherd stove" size RMH with soapstone augmentation would work...I am still figuring this out myself. So far it is a white cedar timber frame double wall with infill system for installation.

Regards,

j

I'm not thinking of a big bench or anything, like we have seen in a lot of Paul's videos. What I am talking about is building a kind of 4' tall brick loop, kind of thing. Where you light it, the flames and gas go up, back, and down, and then channel through a vent under the floor. I planned on insulating the floor with those thick peices of foam underneath, and then plywood, then tile. The exhaust would be transferred between the plywood and the tile, via some sort of odd shaped ducts, and would ideally heat the tile, and give me my nice even radiant heat.
