Hi,

I am nearly done with mulching my garden - horse manure with deep woodchip over the top.

Just as a quick question - is there a need to covercrop these area's, especially over winter? Or - put another way - is there a reason not to?

I was thinking about using something like winter peas in the autumn - this would give coverage - nice on the eye - and also can be chop'n'dropped in the spring. However, I haven't seen other people doing this, so not sure if it's a valuable idea?

Its a good idea to pump sugar into the ground when you can through photosynthesis and root exudates. and produce biomass for mulching and stimulating the soil food web. here is my article on the topic.
