Can anyone suggest a good source of composting worm available reasonably near western Montana?  I'm fairly open to trying genus/genera and species, though in line with M. Appelhof, I would prefer E. fetida or andrei or L. rubellus.

Rickster, here in Bozeman there is a great shop called Planet Natural. They do sell Eisenia foetida worms. I dont know if they carry them in the store (they are closed today), but they have a very large online business, in case you are not in this area. They are also moving to a new location on Rouse, but since they are closed, I cant confirm if they are totally moved out of the Gold address (I havent been by in over a month).

Thanks Kathryn.  I'll check it out.  Fall is coming, so maybe mailing worms makes more sense.

Yup, the best specie in worm composting are Red Wiggler worms or Eisenia Foetida. Try ordering at

How many are you wanting ?  I have been raising the Red Wigglers for several years
and could get you going with a few pounds of compost containing the Worms and many
vermipods. I've messed around with culling and have decided it's a serious waste of time
and is basically worm abuse.
I'm by Blue Mountain here in Missoula.

Blueroot, thanks for responding!  I should have posted "solved" earlier, as I got my worms a few weeks ago.  Not sure what kind they are, but they're red and maybe 1-2 mil diameter.. maybe an inch long... growing of course.  They seem to be pretty prolific.
