Growing tagasaste in the tropics?

Tagasaste (Chamaecytisus prolifer var. palmensis) is often mentioned in the literature as a useful multi-purpose forage perennial in arid climates.  It is sometimes called the "temperate counterpart to Leucaena," and this map in fact shows it growing primarily in temperate and high-elevation areas.



Does tagasaste need a cold season to survive?  Has anyone tried growing it in the tropics?  

I live in Senegal, experiencing a tropical semi-arid climate with ~500 mm of rain falling in a 3 month window during the hot season.  I'm looking to diversify our non-irrigated forages, and this one seems so well-suited but for its temperate label.

Any experience appreciated.

I don't have an answer for you. Even though the map you posted shows it growing marginally in Kenya, I have not seen it, and my husband has never heard of it.  I would also be interested to hear what others have to say, as I think it would be a useful addition to our farm as well.
