Yep, this is called geo-tagging. All photos have EXIF data that stores a lot of useful information in them. Everything from shutter speed to f-stop, to time date, and even geographic tags. It can be real useful for organizing and finding photos, but can be a real privacy nightmare if you aren't aware of it. Good thing is that most cameras need to have a (expensive and optional) GPS device to do the tagging. Cell phones are an obvious exception (they pretty much all have GPS' these days), but they also have an option to turn off the feature. My phone has it off by default, for example.

Here is an app to remove exif data from photos in bulk: http://www.geotagsecurity.com/download/ I've never used it before, but it looks reliable.

Thanks for those links.  I was thinking that there was software to edit those geo tags, good to know.... just in case.

I'm happy for this information, thank you. I just took all pics of us down from facecrack. You know what? My friends know what we look like and I can email pics of the kids to grandparents. I'll be careful with anything I post from now on.

Personally, I don't expect to be anonymous on the internet.  Anyone who really cares can find out who I really am, where I live, etc.  My trail is quite transparent, though I don't use my real name much. 

Most people I know who are on facebook use their real names, so folks can just look them up in the phonebook (google their name). 

There are no google hits for me online, everything I use is set to highest privacy. Not so much for me but the kids, can't be too careful these days.
Ok, and I am a little paranoid with privacy, etc. Why anyone would want to know thing one about us is beyond me but the world is full of freaks!
