Hey kinfolk (my new favorite Appalachian word).

We have a beautiful piece of land near Berea, Kentucky and are interested in travelers, permies and other people excited to join us in creating adventures this year, learning together. We are surrounded by a beautiful group of neighbors and extended community which makes rural life super enjoyable and full of social time and opportunities.

This year, our main focus will be building a log cabin that we will call home.

Secondary focuses will be making money (we have plans and are open to more ideas!) and community organizing (we are working with Permaculture Action Network to organize action days in the surrounding areas, as well as thePOOSH.org and will be soon launching our new project, Hands On Earth Permaculture).

We'd LOVE to do more but we are only three.

Both! It might also be a good idea to seed some dynamic accumulators that will bring up subsoil nutrients and minerals (daikon, turnip, etc) as well as some beneficial pollinator plants (asters, milkweed, etc). You can harvest some of the taproot plants but leave some in the ground to turn to soil and release those subsoil minerals.

We recently got a nice piece of land in KY. I've been doing food forestry and am preparing for the first rounds of grafting we will do in the next year or two.

I'm wondering: can I take scions from, say, California and graft them onto stock in KY? I've asked this question to many people and gotten many different answers.

We are three people (Joana from Portugal, Michael & Loren from Indiana) on 62 acres of paradise in KY near Berea!

The land has unlimited potential. Limestone-filtered freshwater springs that we drink straight from, 50-something acres of Appalachian mesophytic hardwood forest, 7 acres of meadow, caves, waterfalls...it's a nature-lover's playground!

We're just beginning there -- the land is undeveloped with no structures. We're building a log cabin (we're natural builders).
