Wondering if anyone knew the difference between Holistic Management and Savory's older book Holistic Resource Management. The latter is much cheaper online. Thanks!

Friends scooped out some pond muck from their property and put into garden bed last year. A few months later this plant that is also found on their shoreline popped out. It is very thorny and was even piercing gloves they said. It's in north Louisiana zone 8a. Hopefully there are some benefits to it or can be suppressed enough to use the wonderful pond muck on their land. Possibly composted or have chickens eat through pond muck first? Any help ID'ing this and coming up with some solutions would be great. We're thinking of planting/transplanting cattails on their pond because of how productive they can be and that might push out this other plant that takes over their shoreline in the summer.

Thank you!
