Just wanted to introduce myself. I am Brian and my family and I have recently purchased 10 acres in Washington state just outside of olympia. The house we moved in to has been vacant for 3 years before we got here so its been quite a bit of work. Our plans are to build on to the house so my grandmother can move up with us this summer and enjoy the land with us. The property has been recently logged so there is a fair bit of work to do. Our plan is to tame enough land to build a green house and raised bed garden with a stock tank for fish. The thought is for a hybrid type hydroponics setup. We already raise chickens and have goats. This spring we are going to raise some pigs.
I used to live in the desert and city so most of this is all new to me, fortunately I am handy with a tool and a shovel and have a willingess to learn. The inspiration came from the stories my grandmother told me as I was a child of her farm she grew up on. When I became an adult I knew that this was how I wanted to live. I started on a small property in the middle of the city and went nuts growing vegitables but wanted more, so we sold everything and hauld up the coast to Wa where we now reside. 17 months ago we were blessed with our first child, and look forward to my son growing up digging in the dirt with us. I couldn't imagine how much fun I would have had when I was a kid on this property and I look forward to re-living some of that wonder with my kid as he grows.
I stumbled accross this forum looking into root cellar and storage options and was impressed with the wealth of knowledge!
For christmas my wife purchased for me a toy drone that takes simple video thought I'd scare a flyby of the work ahead of me. Hope you enjoy.
