Beautiful traditional-style farmhouse with breathtaking views.

The farm is located in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park at an altitude of 1350 metres with 7 hectares of fertile, well maintained land. It has been ecological certified for over 10 years. And we have stopped ploughing more than 5 years ago. The house is ready to live and the land is waiting to be developed.

€225.000

This rustic style farm house was newly constructed in 2005 out of local stone salvaged from the ruins of an ancient cortijo that gave shelter here for hundreds of years, maintaining the character and history of this unique place. The new building offers modern comfort with the best of traditional style within a surface area of 120 m2, making it a rare find in the Natural Park.

The accommodation is set over 2 levels with sweeping views of the Alpujarras valleys, surrounding mountains and in the far distance, the Mediterranean sea. The ground floor boasts a kitchen/living room (25 m2) with wood burner, 1 bedroom/study (12 m2), a bathroom and larder/ storeroom.

Stairs lead to a bedroom above with double doors opening onto the large roof terrace and romantic vistas. Adjoining but with a separate ground-floor entrance and it’s own bathroom is a spacious studio, also with access to the roof terrace.

Electricity and hot water are provided by an optimally functioning solar installation housed in further storage space accessed from one side of the house. Drinking water comes from a nearby mountain spring, with water for domestic purposes piped to the house from the same water source. The stone walls (40cm thick) are insulated with terracotta air bricks and gypsum plaster while the ceilings are made of chestnut beams and river reeds in keeping with local building methods.

The friendly, welcoming village of Yegen, made famous by Gerald Brennan’s classic account of life in the Alpujarras, ‘South from Granada’, is just 10 minutes away by car, with all the essentials close at hand including a grocery, bakery, primary school, medical assistance, fish van, restaurant and a couple of lively bars. A wider range of services and shops can be found in 2 charming small towns within 15 km's from Yegen. And in the summer months, you can enjoy the cool water and panoramic views at the public swimming pool.

Almería Airport is a 1,5 hour drive away and Malaga Airport 2 hrs. Granada airport is 2 hrs. You can swim in the Mediterranean within an hour of leaving home.

The surrounding land, water rights and large water reservoir (‘balsa’) open up many possibilities for gardening, growing your own food or farming commercially, even in the driest of summers. The finca has been organically certified for over 10 years.

The land consists of 3 hectares of relatively flat agricultural land lined with young fruit trees (apricot, cherry, pistachio, quince, pear, figs, walnut, etc. ) plus chestnut and vines, over 2 hectares of productive almond groves and a couple of hectares of wild herbs and bushes with abundant wild thyme, lavender etc.

The house is accessed by a 4 km track from the main road. There is a good mobile connectivity and high-speed internet through a WIMAX-connection.
