I had so much trouble every year with squash bugs but since I've started planting marigolds around my squash area I haven't had a problem!
Looks like a lovely homestead you have! May  the Lord send you just the people you need to help it thrive and if you must do it alone may He give you the strength to keep it up! I'm always so blessed to see others Christians striving to live the homesteading type of life!

I dream of many things which include a off-grid type of lifestyle where everything I need in life is either grown, raised or created and I can just stay at home and work there. Even if all my dreams don't become a reality atleast they are what keep me pressing onward and fuel me to learn more with each passing day!

Many of Don William's songs have such quality lyrics but Healing Hands is a favorite! Both my grandfathers were passed away before I was born and my grandmothers did/do not have what this song speaks of, yet I've been fortunate enough to meet folks who were just like grandparents to me and they had such healing hands...its something I'll always be drawn to and what i want to have myself!

My Grandma and Grandpa had wonderful hands
With callouses and wedding bands.
They taught me that where there was love
There was always a way.
The picture of the two of them
Has seen me through a lot of years
They were there when I reached up to them
And they're in my life today.
Healing hands, something I can hold on to.
Healing hands, the touch that understands.
Healing hands, I'll always be drawn to
Hearts that belong to healing hands.
You and I may worry so,
To see the kingdoms come and go.
But we've seen enough to know
That it's only love that lingers.
And learning how to live can take a lifetime.
We've got to lend a hand in this troubled world
Before it slips right through our fingers.
Healing hands, something I can hold on to.
Healing hands, a touch that understands.
Healing hands, I'll always be drawn to
Hearts that belong to healing hands.

Hello, Sarah here from Alabama! I figured an introduction may be nice. I think of myself as old fashioned compared to the majority of people around me. I have an old soul and dream of living a more simple life than what I already do. As a young girl I would read the Little House on the Prairie series and wish I lived in those days. Throughout the years I taught myself to sew and such, but it wasn't until after multiple setbacks happened in life that I found myself learning new things. I love to garden although I don't think I'm so good at it yet but that's part of why I'm on this site...to learn as much as I can and grow more in learning about gardens and the whole homesteading life. After all now is the perfect time for me to learn. I love working with my hands to create things and I love the outdoors. Hiking, gardening, animals, sewing, crocheting, baking, canning, woodworking, and soap making are a few of the many things I enjoy.  I want my life to reflect Christ as without Him I am nothing.  My greatest friends are found in nature whether it be a gentle breeze, a night sky or a chirping bird. Time is the most valuable gift one can receive and simplicity is oh so beautiful. I look forward to learning many new things and am thankful for the chance to be a part of this group. Maybe I'll even "meet" others in Alabama who live the simple life!
Many blessings to all!
