I have a couple fences that are lined with Lilac as a privacy wall. Some sections are over 12 feet tall. They are all blooming this time if year and it smells amazing. It is also fun to watch the Hummingbird moths all over them. The cat catches them and feeds them to its kittens.

Does anyone think Tree #4 could be a Mulberry?

Phil Gardener wrote:#1 is a Euonymus species - the seed is very distinctive.

Thanks Phil, after further investigation it looks like it is the wintercreeper variety.

Tree #3 might be an Apple. There are about 30 other apple trees on this property and this looks a little different then any of them.

I recently moved to a new place and I am trying to identify 5 of the trees on the property. I am trying to make a plan for spring. I want to remove and replace a few things that are not really beneficial to my plan. I have taken some pictures of the trees I am trying to identify. These are in Mapleton Utah. It is early January right now.

This one is a thick heavy vining type tree with lots of thick green leaves and a yellow-ish 5 part seed pods with red seeds.
We will call this tree #1. (Edit: this one is Euonymus species- wintercreeper)

Here is a pic of a long pile that started out close to 5 feet tall. You can see the dirty marks on the barn wall showing the height it started. At the back of that picture you can see a long pallet. Behind that is the pigs bedding area. It is all deep enough still that the pig can burry itself completely just about anywhere in it. There are 25 chickens that dig through it as well.

I have lots of apple trees and several very large cottonwood trees. The leaves and a bunch of the fallen apples get raked up and used for winter chicken and pig bedding. The leaves get rooted and scratched through all winter turning them into great mulch come spring. I don't know who loves the apples more, the pig or the chickens. The previous owner of this property would haul off the leaves and fallen apples and go buy winter feed and bedding to use for the animals...
