Hello Aaron and Sarah, I hope your search is going well, I sent an email to your gmail address.  In case you missed it you could find it doing a search for "mistercarson".
If you end up finding what you are looking for and staying in Oregon, my partner and I are looking for people to homestead alongside.  Southern Oregon specifically.  We are putting the "finding people" part ahead of the choosing of land, in hopes we can neighbor with others that have different skill levels and assets, interests, etc.  I'm really realizing that even with an amazing partner, we sure don't want to hit go on all of this, with just us.
Thanks for these!!! They sound great and sourdough was what I was really hoping for.  I'm also excited about seedy crackers, I particularly like the Norwegian style crackers sold at Trader Jo's.  I may try and reverse engineer them and if I do I'll post it back in here.

And I looked at the other cracker threads on permies and wow, have plenty of great info now!  This site has the best people coming together for the best kinds of things in life!

So I'll share my absolute favorite foodie youtuber, he recreates stuff from previous centuries and his content seems to have a lot of cross over with a permaculture lifestyle.  From making rations for civil war troops going on a long march, for crews crossing the ocean 1700s style, or long forgotten recipes using the best home grown ingredients, this guy is great entertainment.

I'm a person really into crunch alongside many meals.  Crackers or chips I am so fond of, mostly I think because of the texture I'm addicted to.  Having realized that I'm not a person into so many of the ingredients in store bought crackers (even organic), I have long thought about what could be a cheap and easy way to make varieties of delicious homemade crackers.  Many years ago I was following the raw food diet and tried numerous recipes for "raw" crackers in my excalibur dehydrator.  I missed the texture of normal crackers though and the flavors weren't what I'd be looking for now.  I like roasty, toasty, and real crispy for one thing.  Using sourdough might also be nice.  So I'm of course not following that diet these days, and am fine with grains, and would like to know if anyone has gone down the road of all things crackers?  Is it possible to make them good in a dehydrator or are most people using an oven?  Does anyone have any favorite cookbooks, blogs/ youtubers, or recipes of your own you could share?

I acquired a 5 gallon metal bucket of nice large nails and they seemed to be newly rusty, but coated on most parts.  An old timer said all I needed to do was put some gasoline in the bucket, stand back and ignite.  He said that the fire would burn off the rust on the nails?  Has anyone tried this, and also someone in this thread has me thinking once they go through a fire.. that they aren't necessarily the same?  Does anyone know about this?  I like the idea of reclaiming and using old nails as nails.

I have this tool and don't really know its use, other than melting stuff.  Can anyone tell me what this particular piece is called and primarily put to use on?

Any chance you would be willing to add in the Permaculture Thorns rough draft ebook in at the last minute?

Looking for ways to work reliably with others on your Homestead?

We are two genuine and capable people are seeking a permanent land succession project.  We have spent seven years working on other people’s land providing maintenance and gardening, as well as some personal care.

Our strong desire is to find an amenable and fair agreement with a person or persons that currently own farm-able acreage and struggle to maintain it on their own.  Joining with land owners that will be able to deed their land to us in time, with a contract, is our next step forward.  Up front we bring with us quality material assets, experience, a mission, and our labor.  This will allow us to create and grow the farmstead and life we desire, while cooperating in a needed and meaningful exchange through land stewardship and resilience building.

Let us introduce ourselves, we are Amy and Ryan and we come from Idaho.  Oregon residents since 2019.  Oregon land seekers since 2014.  Both college graduates and self employed for years.  We have resumes and references if requested.

We strongly resonate with individuals that get along easily with others, have a clear communication style, and desire the permaculture lifestyle.  We appreciate gardening, orcharding, foraging, and supporting our local farmers, producers, and community.    We avoid moldy places altogether, and large cell towers too.  We don’t grow cannabis, nor wish to live in an area surrounded by many weed/hemp growers, due to the high water usage requirements.  Water is of high importance and access to a good well, or other natural water source is #1 on our list.

We are experienced caretakers in areas of maintenance and repairs of many kinds, and quite adept at gardening, holistic orchard care, land maintenance, maintenance of power equipment, some mechanics, sourcing and acquisition, tech support and research.   We have many years worth of practice and deep understanding of health and wellness .  We are continual students of lifestyle design and have had far more specific areas of experience, over years not mentioned here.

Is your legacy in your land?  We want to keep your land stewardship legacy alive.  We want to partner in a land project adventure that can sustain itself through numerous streams of revenue.  Beyond just agriculture, we are interested in building out infrastructure and educational components.  We want to do more than just exist...we want to THRIVE together for the long term.

Some aging land stewards have no children to Will their land to, and the land will be lost to the highest bidder when they’re gone.  It is our intention to find and participate in a truly Win/Win exchange with the right people and the right land.  Upfront or committed routes to future forms of ownership or co-ownership is our goal, and we’re planting seeds for our permanent home.
