I am trying to get a new password so I can access my existing account. I tried both the user name and email options. In both cases I get a message saying an email was sent. But I never receive it. I have verified that the email is not being spam-filtered. There does not seem to be any way to resolve this - and there's no way to get any assistance with site issues via email.

So I created this new account - but I can't comply with the first name / last name policy because my old account still exists.

Am I the only person experiencing this?

Pat, I had trouble for more than a week. The software would let me change the password but wouldn't give me access to the site. Since I really didn't want to create a second account, I sent an email (several actually) explaining the problem and asking for help to Paul and included my password (finally). He was able to access my account and reset the password; I was able to make my way back in and haven't had an problem since.

I did send Paul an email. But I feel bad about wasting his time trouble-shooting my individual problem. Seems like password issues would affect all users and could be more efficiently addressed on the forum.
Maybe we're not seeing that because folks with password issues can't log on to complain about them.

That was basically the same thing I said.

So, you have a new account with two names. Can you add a line underneath "Pat Mann" saying aka Patrick Manning, or whatever name the account you can't access is listed under?

I've changed it for you. I made the name on your old account "Pat R Mann" so this one can have you preferred name.
