There are lots of items you can use for the nitrogen portion of the compost heap.
Things that will heat up your compost heap:
Spent
coffee grounds, green grass clippings,
urine from any animal, any green woody materials, liquid ammonia, are just the main ones.
Fresh manures also work but they aren't necessary, if you have aged manure, that is good for a compost too.
Any time your heap doesn't seem to be heating, just add some liquid nitrogen (
pee or ammonia) and you
should be off to the races.
