Something I am not expecting seems to happen every year! It seems like there is a need for a place to share these when they happen.

Got any?

Ok, so I knew that white clover spreads, but I was surprised to see it spread up and over and down to get out of it's bed. New respect for clover and more confidence to use it on slopes and walls.

I love garden surprises - what springs up naturally!  As a naturalist gardener, I really welcome such occasions!

In my back garden patio (that is concrete based), this wonderful firethorn bush (pictured on the right) broke through!  It has white flowers and, later in the year, red berries that birds love to eat.

The second photo shows some wild rambling roses from next door's garden that decided to come and visit me!

Surprised to see what I am 99% sure is shimeji mushrooms popping up in one of our raised beds. Probably from the spent substrate we get from a local mushroom producer. Not sure if shimeji has any look alikes, but still hesitant to eat them.

These pink anemones are a garden escape, i.e. sprung up naturally and IN GRAVEL too!!
