Hello I moved to France with my husband and 4 small kids in 2014 and now find myself possibly facing a future alone. We have been living on land belonging to my MIL who lives in England, with the intention of becoming as self-sustainable as possible. My husband was diagnosed with ASD last year after our marriage fell into crisis: things haven't improved since and now he has announced he wants to return to the UK.

We have been through a lot this last year, with my daughter having had surgery on her spine and various other crises and I am feeling acutely aware of the lack of outside support. As much as I want to stay on this land I've put so much love and energy into nurturing, I am very aware that I may need to leave it all behind without much notice, so I would love to make some connections with other like-minded, family-friendly people and communities who would be able to offer advice and possibly accommodation in return for gardening and creative projects based around sustainable making and mending.

If you are or know of anyone who might be interested in helping us, please let me know!

Hello

How lovely to see posts from other people in France. I love this website, it has kept me sane over the last few years and I love reading about life elsewhere but it is really nice to know of other similarly minded people closer to home.

I am so sorry to hear of your difficulties and appreciate how difficult it must be for you.

I am in France too a little further south than you where I have a smallholding/small farm with my children.  I have been through similar circumstances to you and went through many many moments when I couldn't see how I was going to be able to carry on, but we did.  It has been really hard but we have survived and are much stronger and self sufficient as a result.

Although I am a little way from you geographically I am very happy to help in any way I can even if its just a chat.

As we have a slightly unconventional lifestyle and a different way of looking at things to most people there has rarely been anyone who could understand our circumstances and how we felt so I know it can be very lonely and very difficult to know what the right thing to do is especially being in a different country.  (That is one of the reasons I love this website, I feel at home, and everyone is so nice to each other)

Anyway, do take care of yourself and let me know if I can help

Ah, so wonderful to read your reply! Thank you for your kind words and yes, absolutely let's connect somehow... I'm new to this site so I don't really know my way around here, but you are welcome to find me on Instagram, where I spend most of my time, @mendingchloe plus it might be easier to chat there, unless it's possible to here and I just haven't figured it out yet... thanks again
