Cool! I have a “hole hawg” gear driven drill that is much more powerful than a ordinary 1/2” chuck drill. I wonder how deep he can go before the friction becomes too much?

I would say friction is very minimal since the hole is so much bigger than the boring shaft.
If you are using a wood chipper, you are doing it wrong. Even on this tiny ad:
