I’ve been documenting the progress on this Dryland Restoration in Hawai’i, where we’re converting degraded lands back into diverse
native dry forest habitat (extremely rare). This site experiences prolonged drought in the dry season, and heavy rains during the wet season that occasionally causes flooding, erosion, etc. So we’ve been implementing a lot of the techniques seen in greening the desert type
permaculture projects, to try to pacify this runoff and extend that moisture into the dry season.
This system is fairly new so it doesn’t look like much now, but it’s starting to accelerate thanks to these techniques for
water infiltration, soil building, etc. Last year I documented heavy rains, runoff, and erosion on the site in order to understand these patterns and start to turn those problems into solutions. Here is the video,

I’m uploading more recent videos that show the progress and successes of this management, where I talk about this stuff in more detail. Hope you enjoy!
