Hi,
This might be a spin off of this post
https://permies.com/t/136880/space-trees-closer-slope-effects.
Much steeper slope here though....
So I'm planting on a 40-45 degree slope (90-100%). Zone 8a SW France. Silty loam. SW facing. 1200mm annual rain. I'm planting the
trees mostly in a diamond pattern to maximize space availability. I plant the trees in big "bowls" I dig out by hand....
I'm trying to find info and
experience on tree spacing in this specific context.
I tried to upload a drawing but I was having trouble with the formatting =S
So how close can I plant a fruit tree (say
Apple) on this steepness of a slope compared to a flatter piece of
land. If I would plant a tree at 7 meters distance at a "flat" farm could I plant them here at 5? or just 6 meters?
My goal is to maximise fruit production (eventually as a cash crop) with minimal pruning and at the same time get to a point where most of the tree
canopy is crowding the ever present brambles!
I'm looking at the Edible Forest Gardens book and there is hardly anything on slopes. I guess tree spacing in the appendix is a very general guideline for flatter forest gardens....
Thanks for your thoughts! =)
