Let's say you happen to have a grand to spend. What would you do with it?

I'm looking towards things that will be levers for future projects, either by reducing my current costs or actually making me money. I'm in a suburban area and am thinking I might go with a load of berry plants (saskatoons, raspberries, strawberries, grapes), and asian-pear trees. Chickens aren't legal in my town, yet, but...

What are your thoughts?

Take Geoff Lawton's upcoming PDC. It will lever future projects but not by the 2 ways you specify.

Well, from the course...

Do you have water; access; structures set up how you want them?

I wouldn't do plants till those "mainframe" features are in place.

Can you find some people that might give you starts for some of the berries you mention? Not having to buy some of the more common berries would help to stretch your money. There are some sites out there where you can trade for plants and seeds, too. If you have some fruit trees already on site, you could also try to learn the art of grafting and increase your variety there. Just a thought.

I wouldn't let that $1000 burn a hole in your pocket just yet. Get creative and see how you can stretch your funds, leaving the $1000 until the right project presents itself. My guess is that the project would lean towards being a larger, one time project. What does your site say it "needs"? You mentioned taking Geoff's PDC course...have you dreamed your design without limits for your site? I would imagine that would give you some ideas.

Oooo, ah, that's how it starts. Later there's running and screaming and tiny ads.
