Some questions on property tax per acre

So im trying to find out how much my yearly property tax will be per acre if im living in boone, north carolina on mostly forest land with a small river on the property. Thanks in advance

You should be able to look up tax information on any parcel you are looking at from the county's tax website. The one where Boone, NC is located is: http://www.wataugacounty.org Look under the Tax Department and do a property search. I am not sure how NC does property tax valuations. I would call the tax office for the county and ask about agricultural exemptions which can drastically drop taxes from several hundred dollars an acre to a couple bucks an acre in many places. There are often minimum sizes to be classified as agricultural land (Texas is 5 acres) and usage requirements but the tax office will be able to tell you all that. As always when dealing with government entities, don't use the term permaculture since that isn't known, use terms they are used to hearing such as agriculture, agroforestry (especially there since it looks like they have an industry there already), or farm. If you are only looking for an acre or so you will probably just be lumped into whatever they have for a homestead.

Actually its in the double digits, and its more my own non-commercial farm, my family already owns it, but i cant find out how much it will cost me yearly, thanks anyways though

Actually, in Boone, they probably do understand the word 'permaculture'.
The Watauga County Extension Agent (based in Boone) is a certified permaculture instructor.

There may be favorable tax laws for 'managed forest'.
As in most counties, the bulk of your taxes will be upon the 'improvements' to the property.
Often, a 400 square foot hunting cabin will more than double the tax burden on a 20 acre plot.
