I've raised insects, but not for food (at least not for people). I've raised silkworms for silk and fed the pupae to chickens. I've also raised polyphemus moths for silk and released the adult moths when they emerged. Both are labor intensive and probably not worth doing just for food (though people do eat silkworm pupae) but I'm going to do it again for fiber.
