Hi,

So,this is my interpretation of the batchbox.

The glassdoor at the top i want to keep it closed during the mean burn. (i want to open it only for starting up or for cleaning out)
The metal door in the front is the main feeding, poking door.

In this way i don't have smoke when opening the frontdoor. When opening the glassdoor, there always a little trapped smoke.

To reduce the heat-stress on the top glass i've made the box a little longer so the glass is further away from the fire.

The testdrive went very well although there was a strong wind that day.

Greetings, Patrick

What's you're performance like ? I don't see any air intake at the front, nor the secondary "peter-channel". My understanding is, those are necessary for truly excellent combustion....

Hei robert,

About the front air intake:

I want to make an outside-air connection ending up right behind the frontdoor. So if the frontdoor is closed the stove takes air from outside. When the door is opened, air is taken from inside.( and trapped smokebuildup gets sucked in aswell. Hopefully...?)

About the performance and the "peter-channel":

What do you mean by performance? Do you mean the "rocket-ness" or...?

The p-channel is new to me. i've looked into it a little, understand how it works but wondering if its worth placing. any experience there?

thanks

Patrick, it's worth using. Even i'd say necessary. Because it brings preheated air to the verry spot where it's needed, just before the port.

As we discovering, thoses batch act a bit like a normal wood burner, a bit like a gasifier. And preheated air injected right at the port where the turbulent mixing happens, helps burning the volatiles gasses escaping the main burn.

Matthew walker is onto another iteration of the batch box, where it works even more as a gasifier. And as we discover, secondary air is even more important than thought.

I'll post the link later, as i can't access donkey's site.

Satamax, sounds like good and solid logics to me.

Where do you take that preheated air from? Can it be taken from the outside-air connection duct?.

When i did the test it indeed felt more as a normal wood burner, less as a rocket.

Hehehe, there are in life many things even more important than thought. Discovery is might!!!
