Pine Martens eating plastic

Hi,
has anybody got the Pine Marten- Plastic problem?
Those creatures love to eat plastic and rubber (in Germany it's a well-known problem, because they get into car engines) - now they've started eating our irrigation system...
Any ideas?
(Dog's not an option)

I would check around with the local gamekeepers or universities if available to see what may be available. Over here the rats and mice are notorious for chewing and building nest in vehicles and we find predators looking for them. As far as chewing into your irrigation tubing, try putting out some open waterers in strategic locations, I have came across various critters chewing into drip irrigation lines, by putting out available water they'll drink from that before chewing into a line once they've located the water other water source.

Hi Tracy , thanks for your thoughts. The Pine Martens are fairly rare around here (so in one way I'm super pleased to have them hanging around ours), but I'm gonna try and find out more about it from the authorities.
One thing you may find interesting: they don't eat into the tubes because they are thirsty (there's a lake very near by), but because they love something in the composition of the plastic. And I've got a cat whose also a plastic junkie. She finds certain plastics irresistable. Maybe they get some sort of high from it.
