As far as the wonderful cork oak, The following information may be helpful to you.
Usual habitat locations: France, Corsica, Italy, Sardinia, Sicily, Portugal, Spain and northern Africa (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia).
The cork oak favors acidic soils, requires a hot dry summer season and a cold and moist winter, (very similar to the south in USA) and can be found in open woodlands, on hills and lower slopes at 300–1000m altitude.
It will do well in USDA zones 7-10.
Suitable for: medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils.
Suitable pH: acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. (Does best in acidic, pH 5.0 thru 6.
Neutral and basic soils will cause slower growth in most cases.
It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade.
It prefers moist soil.
The plant can tolerates strong winds but not maritime exposure.
Seeds: Acorn, best to plant as nature does or at a minimum of soil depth (I like to drop the acorn and gently step on it to press it into damp (not wet) soil).
