A few weeks back, I was pushing a rotory
lawn mower and slipped, landing on my bump and my right knee must have been hurt in the process because it hurt when I walked and especially when squatted or got up from sitting. After a few days of babying it, it got better (or at least no more symptoms!). The pain resurged again (wihtout any identifiable cause other than perhaps the fact that I ate some
Dairy Queen Ice Cream cake at my Father-in-Law's birthday party--I don't generally eat junk like that).
Anyway, despite babying it like I did last time, the pain only seems to be getting worse, not better. Last night, at 4:00am when I went to put my toddler back to sleep, the pain was so bad and the joint so loose that it was really hard to walk. I went outside and got some comfery (yes, at 4:00am!
) and applied the pealed stems and a sort-of-crushed leaf to the right side of my knee where it hurt, with a layer of gauze between it and my skin and went to sleep with it on.
When I woke up in the morning, the pain was GREATLY reduced. This made me think I
should make a real comfery poultice and apply it. But, then I read to only apply it for an hour, and that comfery poultices shouldn't be used while pregnant. But, it's really hard to find reliable information on the internet, and I have no herb
books or schooling, so I thought I'd ask here.
Is it safe to use comfery poultices on closed skin while pregnant? How long should I apply it? Do you have any other ideas for how to reduce the pain and inflammation (I'm already eating more gelatin and trying to eat as non-inflammatory as my queasy stomach can handle. I know joint pain is normal during pregnancy due to relaxin hormones--which I already have in abundance due to being hypermobile--but I'd like to be able to get stuff done, rather than just lying down and sitting and slowly walking all day!)
Thank you!
