So I'm kind of new here but not too new. I've been reading stuff for ages just didn't join in. But I'm realizing that
permaculture includes people as well as the
land so i though I'd be more present.
I don't share where my land is simply because I have neighbors who are not kindly to my ideas and practices. I don't need the headache of one of them finding me and trolling my posts. So suffice it to say I'm somewhere in the central US - West of the Mississippi and East of the Rockies.
We, my family and I, have a small acreage that is fully wooded and has a creek running through the middle dividing the land into a northern section and a southern section. The northern part someone lived on until about 15 years ago so there is a ramshackle house and the trappings of what used to be a home. Still haven't found the old septic system or
water line though we were assured they were there. Found an old well that is plugged but haven't had time to look into it. Needless to say we have lots of plants that used to be domesticated that have gone wild along with all the
native wild plants, too. We find something new every day it seems. The south side is just plain wild. The soil has lichens growing on it in places amid ferns and native grasses and
trees. There's a
fence so we assume someone built it but there's no record or indication that anyone ever did anything with the southern side of the land. That's both good and bad. Good because it is raw land in every sense of the word - bad because it is a nightmare to even walk through. We only use hand tools and a push mower so it can take us a week to clear ten feet. All of which makes it difficult to plan what we want to do with it.
Anyway, I enjoy reading the threads on here and gaining new ideas and knowledge.
