diatomaceous earth for ticks

We have A LOT of ticks around here.  My dog came in covered recently and I couldn't imagine how I could get them all off intact.  I powdered him down with diatomaceous earth and they just fell off as I rubbed it in... dead as doornails.  I'm sold! I now powder my legs, below the knee, my pants and my socks down when I work outside.  When I think of all the times I have tried to pull out a tock or touch it with a match... anything to get the head out... from my own skin, I really wish I had known about this stuff decades ago!  I'd see it from time to time in a discussion here and there, but I had no idea what it was until I watched an old Bill Mollison lecture from the the early 90s.  It does all he said it would.

Good to know. When attempting to get rid of ticks from around your place, it is said that a mixture of chickens and guinea fowl can get rid of more than 95%.

I think we should bump this one to the top pretty regularly, since it's that time of year. I wonder if a small amount placed in pet beds, would be a deterrent. They might spread it all over the house and get rid of the silverfish as well.

A little bit where chickens take a dust bath might work as well.

2 parts peroxide to one part water will also kill them.

I absolutely agree about he poultry - especially guinea fowl.  Guineas may be the most annoying birds on earth (except for peacocks..... the constant screaming of "help" drives me nuts!), but the first thing I do when I move onto a new property is to get some guineas started.  Chickens are great, but guineas are relentless when it comes to pest control.  I am just house sitting for a relative right now, so that isn't an option here - won't be long before the guineas are yelling at me for parking my truck 4 inches further left than usual agai,n though.

Peacocks are very annoying. I have noticed that they always yell my name very loudly.

Whenever I go to Beacon Hill Park, I don't hear them yelling Helen or Charles. They yell, Daaale! Daaale! Daaale!, in an extremely shrill voice.☺
