I was just re-listening to Jack Spirco's interview w/Paul on the elimination of irrigation, and noticed Paul's mention of David Humes' observations about certain plants requiring less shade.

Is there an article somewhere about that? I'm curious b/c I just read in a bk on companion planting that cucumbers like shade, which I have never read in any other gardening book.

I know about greens/brassicas preferring shade, and that pole beans and squash like partial shade, but would like to know if I'm missing any other truths about crops and light requirements. TIA.

I will admit to not listening super closely to this section of that podcast, are you sure it was David Hume? With the same name as the famous Moral Philosopher?
