I live in an urban part of LA and there aren't any readily available. However there are palm trees everywhere. is there any reason I shouldn't use palm fronds for the bed? I also have a ton of used forklift pallets. Should those be fine as well?

I had a quick google search and found these websites:

The last one is the most useful I believe, it says that in a arid climate it will be difficult for them to compost down. So you really need to either burry them slightly or keep them moist, perfect for huglekultur I'd say!
