I grew up peeing outside. At the community gardens I'd run off to the fields and go usually using grass to wipe if I didn't have a paper towel in my pocket. On long car rides dad would find an area I could be more secluded and my brother would go up at the car and again I'd run with paper towel in hand. I won't deny it, I started to develop "external urination member" envy (I don't know how people would respond to my calling it what it is). So at the tender age of 9 I perfected my peeing while standing up method, but I was never comfortable enough to do it outside, just in the toilet. I felt too exposed even in the middle of no where.
I've found greenery to be the best to wipe with, last years oak leaves hold up the best if nothing green is available, but they're a bit scratchy and nothing is as absorbent as a bit of tissue. As an adult, I have found myself less likely to go on the side of the road and my house is a bit too exposed, but in the woods I don't hesitate. I do carry tissues with me now though and I dig a hole with my heel and drop the tissue in and cover it. I haven't peed standing over a toilet in more than 15 years but I do know my urine stream is more angled than it used to be and I am a very messy urinator even on the toilet so I don't like going without tissues anymore. This is a great thread. I can't wait to use my skirt as a privacy screen and I never even knew there was anything but cloth alternatives to pads and tampons; I'm so glad that people weren't too shy to bring this up.
