Well, I don't know where you are or hope to be, but we just joined as exploratory members an eco-village in central North Carolina and would welcome a family like yours... in fact, my husband and I and our 3 kids are very similar to you in many ways... go to www.hartsmill.net and check it out, see if that sounds like your kind of thing... you can also follow us on https://www.facebook.com/pages/Harts-Mill-Eco-Village-and-Permaculture-Project/457914744258120
best wishes! Adriana

Hi,
I recently became an exploratory member of a forming ecovillage, Hart's Mill, here in central NC just northwest of Raleigh.
I am trying to get the word out, because we need more, new, serious members... we would be especially pleased to see interest from families with kids...
We have the land, 115 acres, and the founders are very knowledgeable about how they are going about this...
But we are at a critical growth point where we need things to snowball and would be thrilled to get some more interest..
Please check us out and "Like" us on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Harts-Mill-Eco-Village-and-Permaculture-Project/457914744258120
We need input and dynamic discussion on our progress and ideas on how to proceed.
The first 2-3 homes will hopefully be built this year... a permaculture survey has been done and shows great promise, and if you are interested in learning more about the project itself, please see our website at http://www.hartsmill.net
I can't think of a more reasonable approach to building a community than to go out and seek support and ideas from others with the experience and interests that are needed here!
Please let me know what you guys think!
