Dear Stewards of the Earth,

Kaw Permaculture is pleased to announce its 9th Permaculture Design Course, July 9 through 18, 2014. This PDC will be hosted by SubTerra Castle Permaculture Center in Eskridge, KS, and will consist of 10 days of a mix of classroom presentations, discussion and hands-on field experience. SubTerra (subterracastle.com) is an unique venue, being a poignant example of regenerative lifestyles, transforming weapons of mass destruction into implements of peace. The homestead has been transformed from a 1950s nuclear missile site to multifaceted permaculture and holistic living project.

This intensive course promises to be a personally transformative and community building experience. The PDC will bring together the combined talents of three permaculture teachers, who have many years of experience working with the ecology of the central plains bio-region. Among the topics central to permaculture design, participants will learn how to apply principles of ecological design to both the urban and broad-acre settings. The course will include classroom instruction, hands-on exercises, group discussion and teamwork, and field trips to six local urban garden and farm sites. Students who complete this course will be awarded a Permaculture Design Certificate from the Kansas Permaculture Institute, a project of the Sustainability Action Network.

The keystone of the permaculture movement is education in the ethics and principles of ecological design. The PDC course is the foundation for a regenerative design of our human environments, agriculture and communities. To this end, Bill Mollison, co-founder with David Holmgren of the Permaculture Movement, established the content and curriculum of a 72-hour Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) course. Since the mid 1980s, these courses have been taught in thousands of communities worldwide.

Begin your journey toward sustainability by registering today. For detailed information on course content, fees and registration materials, visit our website: kawpermaculture.com/education-training/. For more information, contact Steve Moring at 785-691-7305.

Vajra Farm, LLC - Kaw PermacultureTM is requesting apprenticeship and intern applications for the Spring of 2014.

Vajra Farm Permaculture center is a 45 acre botanical sanctuary and permaculture training site located 17 minutes north of Lawrence, KS. We have been providing apprenticeship opportunities since 2000.

We are seeking individuals who are looking for hands-on experience in broad-acre permaculture and restoration agriculture, including focus on no-till polyculture vegetable production, creation of plant guilds, forest gardens, viticulture and cultivation of medicinal herbs. Applicants should have a basic knowledge of permaculture principles and want to expand their knowledge and skill levels. Kaw PermacultureTM, the educational arm of Vajra Farm Permaculture Center, offers classroom training toward a Permaculture Design Certification (PDC) through the Kansas Permaculture Institute. On-site apprenticeship training can be used toward fulfilling requirements for this certification.

The apprenticeship is a work-training agreement with a 3 month commitment of 6 – 10 hours a week. Training will be provided by Steve Moring, and other KPI PDC graduates. Steve is certified Permaculture Design Teacher and Consultant. For more information see World Wide Permaculture Network.

Please contact me for further questions.

Sincerely,

Steve Moring, Director

Hello Permaculture Enthusiasts,

Have you learned a bit about permaculture and think it is something that you want to embrace as a path toward a sustainable future?
The Permaculture Design Certification course is much talked about, but usually involves a 8 -10 day commitment as an intensive learning experience.

If you live in the Kansas City-Lawrence-Topeka, Kansas area, and can commit only evenings and weekends, an extended 14 week PDC may be the solution for you. A PDC is now available in your area!

Kaw Permaculture's Permaculture Design Certification course generally meets twice a week, and will begin in mid-February, 2014 and continues through mid May. The main venue will most likely be the Douglas County Extension in Lawrence, KS as well as various area urban and farm training sites. For details about the course, instructors, and fees, please visit the Kaw Permaculture website (http://www.kawpermaculture.com/education-training/).

If interested please contact, Steve Moring at 785-691-7305 (moringse@gmail.com).

All the best, Steve

Hello Permies in this forum living in the Kansas City Area,

I am now in the act using this forum:

This is to let you all know that Permaculture is alive and well in our area. I am the coordinator of the Kansas Permaculture Collaborative, an organization that has been in existence since 2006. We have over 200 members in the Kansas City, Lawrence, Leavenworth, Topeka & Emporia areas. We have a KPC-dev google group list-serve and a Facebook page. We are supported by the Kansas Permaculture Institute, a project of the Sustainability Action Network, Inc., a non-profit (501-C3) (www.sustainabilityaction.net). We are active offering PDC courses, forest garden and a host of skill building workshops. We have been offering two PDC courses a year since the fall of 2009. For information regarding our permaculture educational and apprentice opportunities, please visit www.kawpermaculture.com/education-training/.
