I'm used to the Colorado sun and would like to try to find a place in Colorado if possible. I've never lived east of here and do not have any experience with humidity. I've lived in as and at 9000 feet in the Rocky Mountains so temp anywhere wouldn't be an issue.

My kids will be 6 and three by this time next year and I would have them part time. Another reason living in Colorado would be beneficial.

Thank you for your response.

Hello all.

I am looking to join a community next spring. I am going down a new path in life and would really like to get out of the hustle of "normal" American life.

I am a hard working 30 year old man interested in learning anything about living off the land, natural building, and animal care. I don't have experience but I bring an excitement to learn and I take great pride in my work and ability to learn. I am willing to do just about anything and I would love the opportunity to join and build a community my children can learn and grow in.

Please let me if you have any information on communities who are family friendly and willing to take a complete novice.

Mark,

Thank you for all the great information. I have been looking at Dancing Rabbit, Circle of Children, and White Buffalo. I know White Buffalo is trying to be sold so not sure what their situation is. We are going to try and find some places to visit next summer. I will also send you over a personal email to talk about possibly helping you and your family on some projects.

Thanks

Mark,
We are up for just about any adventure and almost any situation. We would need housing (nothing fancy just a warm place to sleep). We would be up for a work exchange but ideally we would like to live in a type of intentional community or possibly help get one going. As long as we have our basic needs meet income can be minimal. housing, food and clothes are the biggest requirements. My wife is a certified massage therapist and a birth doula and she might be interested in doing some of that type of work on and off the farm/community. I would prefer to work solely on the property but would be willing to pick up outside work if needed and if available. A situation where my wife and I could work opposite shifts. Either 1/2 days each (one works 6 -12 and the other works 1-7) and do that six days a week. or each work 3 full days. just so one can be with kids. We would also like a place that would allow the kids to get involved with some of the tasks on the farm.

We would love to work with permaculture and aquaponics. Small livestock like chickens and rabbits are also something We would love to give a try. Maybe ducks but we haven't done much research on them. But really any place that is willing to give a novice family with young kids a chance to learn while working is ok with us.

Thanks again.

Thank you both for the replies. and I agree that kids although a distraction at times are the best motivator for anyone. All parents want to work hard for their kids. Mike thank you for the suggestion of Dancing Rabbit. I have not heard of them before but I am looking forward to making contact with them.

Thanks

We are a family of 4 currently living in Colorado. I am 29 and my wife is 27, our kids are 4 and 2. We have been living in a secluded mountain town and are looking to get our hands in the dirt and start a sustainable life. A life where our kids can watch their food grow. We don't have any hands on experience but we are both hard workers and fast learners. We seek a place that welcomes families with no experience but a willingness to work hard and learn everyday. We are up for a new adventure and are willing to relocate to just about anywhere. If any body knows of a place that might work for us please let us know.
Ellen,

Thank you for the feedback. It seems like we are just out of your ideal scenario but keep us in mind. I am a very dedicated worker and I take pride in anything I put my name on. I am willing to put in as much work as needed to get my family into a more sustainable situation. As I stated before we have little experience but a huge hunger to learn and better ourselves each day. We have came to the conclusion that working land and raising livestock is going to be the best way for us to give our kids a future. Again thank you for your time and If you would like to know anything about us please us me know. Good luck in your search.

Ellen,

Your place sounds great. My family and I would love the opportunity to learn more about you and your land. We are a young couple (I'm 29 my wife is 26) and we have two young kids. We have been fascinated with permaculture and aquaponics for a few years now. being a renter and living in a high cold climate has prevented us from getting much hands on experience. If you are at all interested in hearing more about us or if you have any questions please let us know.

Thanks
