Hi Peter,
In early Spring of 2017 I sent a "Wood Chips Wanted" flyer to numerous tree service companies in the Springfield MO area. Over the summer they delivered to me (for free) over 20 truckloads (approx 1/5 acre) of wood chips to my yard on the east edge of Springfield. I recently finished hauling the chips to our farm in Webster County - where we're building a new homestead and will be relocating to within a couple of years. Also included with the dumped wood chips was a fair amount of useable firewood. We mostly heat with wood.
I recently began dumpster-diving at local carpet retailers. The used junk carpet (available for free from dumpsters) makes excellent weed barrier / ground cover - and it's heavy enough that it doesn't blow around too easily in the wind. My immediate use for the junk carpet is for what I call my "stuff storage area" at the Webster County farm - an area where I'm staging building materials, equipment, IBC totes, barrels, etc. - and where I don't want weeds growing up amongst the stored "stuff". I visited a tomato production operation a couple of years ago where the guy used junk carpet as a weed barrier between rows of tomatoes in his 40' x 80' greenhouse.
We're planning on utilizing ICF for our new homestead, and we would be most interested in meeting with y'all to learn from your ICF home-building experience - as well as general homesteading / permaculture knowledge. We currently live about 12.99 (crow-flight) miles NE of your place.
