Biography
My little family and I (papa, mama, curly girly) moved to Montana's Flathead Valley in August of 2014 to begin a new life with the goal of sustaining ourselves financially and to hopefully pull off our dream of off-the-grid living. I've recently been learning about permaculture and it has quickly become the lifestyle of choice for us. We are BARELY off the consumer bandwagon so we have a long way to go. Love to learn!

Okay...I realize I may be revealing how truly new I am to all of this...but seriously, I am having no luck find a consultant to come walk through our property and help us plan a design. We want to hire a conultant who has a great track record and I know there is one in Dayton...but damn, I am losing my mind trying to figure out how to find the man! We have a couple acres on Flathead Lake that we want to develop using edible landscaping...and also build a beautiful, yet functional greenhouse. This will be a vacation rental marketed to creative types. We are excited about the project and hope to find a great designer. Any suggestions??
Thanks!!

Mary James....I would love to come visit your place...maybe help with a project? Not sure what the protocol is, but it would be great to meet other like minded folks in the valley!

Hello!
My family is new to Montana (from Portland, OR) and we intend to move toward off-the-grid living and have fallen in love with the principals and ideas of permaculture. (really digging this site too!) I have had my own garden two summers in a row (our last two summers in Oregon's Willamette Valley with only a little success, so I'm sure our learning curve is pretty high. We are determined, however, and understand it is a process that will take several years (for us, anyway).

The reason for the post? We are DYING to meet and mingle with other permies in our area and participate in ANYTHING that we can learn from. I can't imagine building a home (bale-cob) in one short Montana summer and am not sure if one could build in the winter. Wondering if any folks in the area are building or doing anything we could help with in exchange for the opportunity to learn.

Flathead Valley peeps....HOLLA!
