Bumping this 4 years later. I am now 28  I have purchased a tipi for delivery next year that I plan on attempting to live in next year on the same property while still attempting to rent out/pay off the regular home on the property.  In all honestly I have been a terrible permie the last 4 years.  It is still my passion although right now my main focus is getting the mortgage paid off for financial security so I can spend my time in more permie ways.

I moved to the northern border of the ozarks 1.5 yrs ago. At this northern border of them we will probably get between 1-4 4" snows this year and couple of good icings in late winter.  Looking for lack of regulation? Definitely here. Having many close neighbors in the country here can be risky. I'd suggest visiting one of our large lakes, Table Rock or Truman/LOZ. The summer can be humid but the extremity only lasts 1-2 months. If you need a lot of local support here, there might not be many choices.  I asked for the libertarian ballot at our last primary and the voting official said "I think they call that something else now.", and it was half-way through the day.   Many neighbors here are extremely nice but are not the type of people you want to bring up anything value-based besides Jesus and Trump to.

Number one thing I've learned in my short time is that you have to accept that you will fail before you start to learn.

Cash saved exponentially makes things "easier" for you, if that's what you're going for.

Take your time but strive for constant progress.

I do not know the specific regulations and it does vary by state but make sure you know that you could tow something 10 foot wide when I believe the normally allowed trailer width is 8.5 feet off the top of my head.

You would for sure either need a premium recent year half ton (150 or 1500 series) or older 3/4 to 1 ton truck for something like that, I believe.  Fifth wheel preferred but some people may try it with a bumper pull.

Have you made it 10 times larger Dale?!?!

I have some of these piles that were left on my property by a bulldozer before purchase and may hand-dig some into hugelkultur but do not want to have machinery do it.   Any thoughts on the fact that the beneficial bacteria and fungi are still present when you leave a log laying in the forest? It would still decompose, just slower, releasing nutrient.  I think these are the main 2 reasons hugelkultur really works in general, especially if my climate has plenty of wet anyway, no?  Seems to be much easier (zero work) for about 70% of the benefit of hand digging through rock and clay to get soil to throw on top of the piles. An educated thought would be nice!

Pearl, I am willing to bet you are too far south for me to be of much realistic help but I am just north of Warsaw.  I know of a few contractors I could recommend up here but again, doubt I can be of much help.  There are plenty of us here in MO and welcome!

I have only just begun my permaculture adventure but have just purchased 10 acres with a house in mid-west Missouri and would love to find a girl to be by my side for life that is interested in sustainability.  I am in the middle of a transition of consciousness of my effect on the planet with my actions and decisions.  As long as we both try to better ourselves everyday that is all we can ask from each other.

Introvert through and through...I believe what you put into life is what you get out of it + whatever the hell is after life.  Agnostic/athiest?  I have no clue what happens at death but I know if you are the best person you can be t everyone around you, that is the best you can do.

I'm 5'10" and lean.

I love live concerts and will probably never give that up.  The connection to music is beautiful.  I especially like jam bands, electronic dance, and reggae.

I would also be open to anyone strictly interested in partnering up for some permies experiments, but right now I have one couple that I think may be putting a remodeled bus on the property next year.  If that doesn't out I may post here again.

I had originally purchased a remodeled fifth wheel trailer and was going to buy raw land without any debt but finding specifically what I wanted in my budget was found to be difficult to find and I gave in on a home mortgage.  I work from home running an online business that I want to phase out of eventually.  I plan to put the home up on AirBnB soon as well.

I am still learning pretty basic construction skills, using power tools, as I stupidly got a degree in Finance at OkState.  How am I going to survive off grid knowing finance!?!?  In the next 5 years or so I plan to transition to living in more natural buildings and maybe solar only?  The 10 acres is on a gravel road but the electric company is awesome here so I have 250 MB/s internet if you need wi-fi for income.

There is a detached shop that I plan to renovate since it has broken panels and mice communities in the ceiling.  Is there a place to hire farm cats that you're not responsible for?

I have little experience with animals other than hunting growing up (I do fish now, not really hunt unless it is really needed).  I would like to learn more about goats and ducks specifically.

Normally relaxed personality but high work ethic.

Last year I was lucky enough to travel the country backpacking so that was cool and is another interest of mine, but doesn't exactly mix with sustainability.

I think it would be funny to leave it unknown as to if I still have my beard or not.

I'm sure I forgot a lot, just ask if interested or if you have any suggestions that I add.

Edit: Already remembered one! I grew up in Andover, KS, not really a small town, but I've always dreamed of having my own land in the country.   Nature is amazing/the most perfect thing we'll ever know.  And everything in the universe is connected in one way or another.
