Love growing root vegetables! My only difficulty has been keeping them over the winter. Been jonesing for a root cellar since forever. This year I decided I already had one—-my crawl space! Successfully storing potatoes, carrots, burdock, parsnips. Feel like my grandma!! 😉😂

Paul: I’d just add to this thread that a squatting position is much healthier way for both sexes to relieve themselves as it helps with pelvic floor musculature. However lots of folks don’t have the joints for it. Also, when you’re too chubby it’s problematic. I am fortunate enough to be able to and have no qualms about outdoor peeing myself.

I’m kinda new to chickens but have discovered that my month old chicks just LOVE rotten wood chunks that I scrounge for them from the backyard forest!! They love to tear it apart with beaks and feet but also eat big chunks of it.  I’m guessing that they’re getting nutrition from the natural bacteria and fungi in the wood because there are few bugs. Anybody else have this experience?
