How about free mulch the trees are just throwing out volumes of leaves right now should they be composted or mulched.

every one should go out and get at least a few bags of it. the mineral content should be great for our gardens

I think it is unfortunate that forest areas are being logged for biomass energy production for centralized power production. It is also a realistic outcome due to our energy usage.

I feel that this could be cause for small scale production for the permaculture homestead or Eco-Village. a coppice rotation for fuel wood has been feasible in the past  and it is certainly can be for the future. A permaculture plan should include a fuel wood forest utilizing a variety of trees depending on the size of settlement would determine the type of harvest area and rotations. I have done some preliminary calculations based on how much could be produced and the amount would increase with each harvest rotation. I could feasible for a existing town to do this we just need to plan for it and not leave it up to market forces.

Coppice rotations I feel are the no kill forest management scheme the tree resprout from the stumps or suckers that grow.

How can we achieve this even on a small scale to curb the demand of mass logging and deforestetion of forest that take years to regrow

Biomass seems to be entering into mainstream for energy production.
I am concerned of over use, deforestation, poor management how do we address these issues

making it I thought it was fun and the stucture of the stuff is just amazing to see the rings of the wood "amazing" I realy like using the charcoal to cook my dinner on my Bar B Q very good taste.

The brits seem to master the teqnic of making carcoal that is have the coppiced wood lands were created for the production of charcoal for home heating, glass & metal making, the forest was managed by these company's to ensure a supply of material for thier industries. that ended with the use of Coal and then Petrol

I feel with the appearance of the end of oil we will return to the use of wood for home heating and eventualy for use by industry we are close to this I also fear of deforestation due to the use of wood and it not be replenished we are talking mass use of biomass could be big in the use of our forest lands. management will need to be used

This could be a different string maybe I ll start one

Coppicing is definitely be used any where

willow species to look at may be

salix nigra
salix amygdaloides
both appear to grow in your area.

you may concider looking for a hazel also they may not have the water demand or perhaps a privet that could give you lots of small diameter wood

http://www.woodsmithstore.co.uk/shop/ is a online shop that has a variety of books and tools to help with your coppicing needs

To cleave is to split the break is simply a steady tool to assist. you could also use a billhook to "split" or cleave a cane of hazel or willow so the could be used for building wattles fences and basketry. many products made from a coppiced forest
