With your name I'm curious why you grew up in Istanbul. Diplomat brat or military? Do you speak Turkish? How long were you there?
I’m in the Bay Area, CA—land of avocado toast and rent that makes you cry in the shower. And yeah, California is hella expensive, so I’m plotting my escape eventually. I’m guessing that’s what you were asking? Oh, and mad respect for surviving my long-winded post—true endurance right there.

Hey there, future co-pilot in chaos,
I’m a 40-year-old man on a mission to find someone equally unhinged in their dream of trading in the 9-to-5 grind for a life of chickens, compost, and questionable DIY projects. I’m tall (6’2”, so I’ll handle the top shelves), light-skinned, mixed, and rocking an “average with a side of dad bod” build. My smile might not stop traffic, but it’s heartfelt—and honestly, heartfelt is more important than symmetrical, right?

Here’s the deal: I’m not here for perfect. I’m here for real. The kind of real that appreciates authenticity, laughs at my bad jokes, and is ready to dive headfirst into a life where “weekend plans” mean planting an orchard, arguing over chicken coop designs, and naming goats after pop culture icons.

When I’m not dreaming of our semi-off-grid paradise, I’m in the kitchen whipping up something delicious or in the garden trying to coax life out of stubborn soil. I love cooking, R&B, hip-hop, and Turkish bops (yes, Tarkan is a lifestyle, not a phase). I’m an atheist, but I believe in kindness, compassion, and making the most of the here and now—preferably with a drink in hand and you by my side.

Let’s get real for a second: I’ve been through some stuff (who hasn’t?). Life’s left a few scars, but they’ve taught me to appreciate what matters—loyalty, humor, and a willingness to embrace life’s beautiful mess. If you can flirt, roast, and laugh your way through awkward moments and chicken escape attempts, we’re already halfway there.

Now, about this homesteading dream: You don’t need to know how to milk a cow or start a fire (YouTube exists for a reason), but you do need to love the idea of a life where we swap Netflix binges for stargazing and trade takeout for homegrown tomatoes. Oh, and animals—they’ll be non-negotiable members of our little family, so I hope you’re down for fur, feathers, and the occasional “what did the cat drag in?” moment.

If you’re someone who can laugh through life’s hiccups, has a soft spot for plants and playlists, and isn’t afraid of a little dirt (both literal and metaphorical), let’s talk. Life’s too short for perfect timing or perfect people—let’s start building our imperfectly perfect forever, one chicken coop at a time.

So my dream is to go off grid and live a minimalist lifestyle. My obstacles are. I have less than 20k to my name. I'll be doing this all alone. With zero skills in carpentry or most other skills. I can farm and take care of animals. That's my strong suit. At 36 I'm being discouraged every time i do research. Such as which state to move to, how far I want to be from people, how hard it will be to find a partner and such.Or the fact that i simply cant live without internet. Its a resource i cant live without.

Any word of advice or encouragement.

So I dont want to leave my lovely state. However I do not know of any places that would leave me alone if I lived in my rv (converted bus,yurt,...) on my property out of anyone's eyesight. Do you know of any such country that's off grid friendly?

Not for that price. Im in the bay area id love the idea of staying local. But prices like that are why its impossible.

Lets say I buy land somewhere. Whats a cheap way I can end up with a living situation on it? Rv living? Tent living? Yurt? Modular home? Earth bags?
I ask because Im sure I can buy land and move this month anywhere. But Im not sure financially I can build on it. I dont want to take a loan because once i homestead i plan on not working the way I have my whole life.
I may have to get a part time job as a cook or something ( unless i keep making $$ in this stock market). Hopefully even that paycheck will be more then what i need, being a minimalist.

Sounds like a great opportunity.

I am currently in the Bay Area (city life ugh). I plan on moving to a homesteader's life soon enough. I am single without children, hoping to start a life with someone.
About me: Minimalist. Strong moral compass. Family oriented. Anti guns. Not religious. Im half Turkish so i love middle eastern food. Love animals but am afraid of bugs. Obviously its something i will have to get over.
