Hello! the previous owners of the acreage I just moved onto had left a huge pile of trees and debris behind. My husband spent some time this summer clearing it all away and now we have a huge dirt field left. Its about 1 acre of space and its right off our house so we would like to use it as our "family/kids" area. my husband just wants to throw some grass seed down and have a big yard but im wondering if there are some better ideas out there from a permaculture view that would be better.

Hello all! this is my first time here and im so glad to have found such a wonderful resource. My family and I just moved onto 7 acres about a month ago. The property is about 6 acres of heavily wooded trees. We are working with a friend (logger) to cut down and remove the stumps of most of the trees because our goal is to create pasture so we can have cows and goats. My main question is what is the best way to establish new pasture and how do i manage the existing weeds that will surely come up. We want to really nurture the soil and aren't planning to get any animals until next year. We currently have chickens that i hope to let roam the land once the trees are done being cleared to apply some manure. We won't be cutting all the trees down, we will be leaving a good amount of them behind to create more of a silvopasture.
