I live on Lake Michigan with a large section of beach. Recently, we had 6 days of rain consecutively. This produced a very unusual phenomenon on my beach. It has piles and piles of Zebra Mussel shells that washed up, mounded in rows of thousands of dead shells.
A doctor friend of mine suggested I do "something" with this rich cash of calcium.
However, I do not know how I would crush them for the nutrient value for fertilizer. You have mentioned that you are teaching this, and I would love to be taught so that I do not waste this unexpected treasure and gift.
I know Zebra Mussels can cut your foot because of the hardness, and I know that they are weighty in volume. So I am curious how I might manage these.
