As an ecologist who is informed by non western cultures approach to custodianship of land I find it problematic that permaculture seems to have such a utilitarian perspective of nature and as one of the posters her has said, removing themselves from understanding that these intact ecosystems that are functioning provide the very principles and values that have informed (the much newer tradition) of permaculture.

Saying that, I also would like to see more discussion of the role of human in all systems to include custodianship and management activities that reflect the reality that certain global plants decrease ecosystem functioning and habitat for threatened species and their ""removal" is part of our role as part of nature.  Perhaps with the focus on sustainable use of any removed plants rather than this "those people hate plants therefore they are bad and dont understand permaculture".
Also systems that require fire for their sutvival.
The concept of "wilderness" is a western construct.  Country needs people. People brave enough to not think every global plant belongs everywhere.

I would like to see more understanding of disturbance ecology and distance specialist.  Ie.  Brush turkeys ..  they dont need more habitat created...its the species that need the intact managed by custodians zone 5 that are missing out here.
